Hi,

I am setting up Python on a new Itanium server running VMS 8.4, using the LD image files. I have mounted JFPPY0200I and run compile_all.com, which mostly worked. Some syntax errors were reported:

Code:
$ python -W ignore:"hex/oct constants" compile_python_modules.py
SyntaxError: ('invalid syntax', ('/python_root/lib/lib2to3/tests/data/py3_test_grammar.py', 130, 13, '        x = ...\n'))

SyntaxError: ('invalid syntax', ('/python_root/local/mpmath/libmp/exec_py3.py', 1, 12, 'exec_ = exec\n'))

SyntaxError: ('invalid syntax', ('/python_root/local/mpmath/tests/extratest_gamma.py', 50, 35, '        print("%s ok;" % name, end=\
' \')\n'))

SyntaxError: ('invalid syntax', ('/python_root/local/mpmath/tests/torture.py', 80, 27, '            print(".", end=\' \')\n'))

Are these critical?

Thanks,
Jeremy Begg

Apart from the first error, which seems to belong to some "test" stuff,
I guess that you'd only have reason to take care *if* you will use
the "mpmath" module. And two of them are also from some
kind of /mpmath/tests/ directory tree...
I would not worry for the Python environment as such.
