I'm new to python (not to mention C++). I'm trying to build OmniOrb 4.1.3

I've downloaded and installed the python LD images. I've recompiled python (took
4 days on my Alphastation 255/233). I don't have SSL installed.

Part of the build references is a C++ (CXX) compile that includes PYTHON_ROOT:[vms]upcase_names.h;1
This in turn includes
# include <openssl/opensslv.h>

and I get error

%CXX-F-SRCFILNOOPEN, could not open source file "openssl/opensslv.h"
at line number 59 in file PYTHON_ROOT:[vms]upcase_names.h;1

%CXX-I-MESSAGE, 1 catastrophic error detected in the compilation of "DISK$VMSORB
:[FJG.OMNIORB.omniORB-4_1_3.src.tool.omniidl.cxx]idlpython.cc;1".

I suppose that the next step is to install SSL, so that the OPENSSL logical is defined and
the build finds opensslv.h

Should I install HP SSL (version 1.3?) as I've seen older posts suggesting that the HP SSL may not be appropriate?

On Alpha, that's correct HP SSL insn't suitable, you need to install my SSL kit which is build using float IEEE and name=as_is.

4 days to rebuild Python Surprised

On an old system be sure to build it using the correct architecture flags.

Followed advice dowload jfp's kit, found at

http://www.vsm.com.au/ftp/jfp/kits/
