1) Will there be a new version of MySQL anytime soon?

2) People here might wish to take a look at MariaDB-5.5-25 which can be found at Mark Berryman's site here:

http://www.theberrymans.com/php_kits/

MariaDB is just another MySQL fork so I doubt if anyone would notice any difference between the two. But the big deal here is that MariaDB is not controlled in any way by Oracle. I've been playing with Mark's software for a week now and it appears to do every thing we want in our shop (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada). Depending on how busy JFP is, he might not be able to find the time to VMSify MySQL 5.5 but perhaps JFP wouldn't mind opening up this site to host Mark Berryman's stuff. Just my 2-cents worth.

I have no plan to release any new version, as you mention MariaDB is probably the way to go.
One of the reason is that this was at sometime, a common project with HP, and HP has stopped to work on this project.
Another it is not clear what is the future, as MySQL is a Oracle product, and that many core developers has left,.

If Mark Berryman wants that vmsmysql host his work (distrib files, wiki, forum) there is no problem. He can contact me...

JF, Thanks for the quick response. I did not know this site was common to efforts at HP, or that they had stopped supporting it. But after seeing their EOL (end of life) announcement regarding OpenVMS, we should not be surprised. Meanwhile, we all need access to good Open Source software on OpenVMS so we can prepare for an all-Linux world sometime in the future. Thanks for all your efforts here and elsewhere. I will pass on your invitation to Mark Berryman.

Makes me wonder if HP agreed to stop working on MySQL as part of the Itanium lawsuit with Oracle. Question
